The time has come. I clocked out at work, muted my co-workers in my phone, and picked up a new coat and hat. It’s time for a vacation.
Road Trip
My destination, Assateague Island Maryland. The barrier island out on eastern shore. I’ll be out there for a few days (two nights), but I’m not staying on Assateague. It’s camping only, and getting a spot is not easy. So, I’m staying at a hotel in Ocean City, about twenty minutes away.
If you know me, you know I’m bringing my camera, and large lenses. That’s the main reason I’m going. What am I hoping to get? I don’t know. Let’s hit the road, and find out.
The Drive Out
After topping up the tank, I set off. Driving from western Maryland, to the far east of the state. About halfway there, I hit the bay bridge.

The state is spit in half by the bay, and a river. And the bay bridge is the main way to cross between the two shores.
After crossing over, I just continued. I didn’t plan on doing the three hour drive non stop, but that’s what I ended up happening. Before I knew it, I was at my hotel.
The Place
I wasn’t expecting that much, just a basic room, considering what I payed. However, upon checking in, they gave me an upgrade. Yay winter beach trips. I was given a room on the top floor, with a kitchen.

I think most rooms at this place have one, based on what I saw online (and wondering the perimeter and floors). But that was a bit of a surprise.
After dumping my stuff, it was off to Walmart. To put some food in that fridge.
The Main Day
Waking up the next day, I got my camera set up, and hit the board walk. Among the closed stores, and empty beaches, were seagulls.

After that, I set out for Assateague Island. I used to go camping there every year, driving up to the island was giving me flashbacks. Flashbacks of the suffering of biking over that bridge.
Just look at that thing.
After pulling into the state park (and paying the fee), I went up to the beach. And got a pic of Ocean City.

While I was on the beach, I was wondering if I would see one of the wild horses. Then I turn around, and there was two of them.

I decided to head over to the national park next door. The National Park Service isn’t charging while the government is shutdown1 2. I didn’t really see much, but got a okay bird shot.

After that, I headed back to Ocean City, grabbed some Five Guys, chilled in the indoor Hot Tub, and then hung out by the fire pit.

It was soon the least best part of a trip. Time to start packing to checkout tomorrow.
Reflection
Two nights wasn’t long enough. I really should have done at least three. But none the less, I learned a few things on this trip. Kitchens in hotel rooms are amazing, and I still have a ton to learn about photography.
