Git in iCloud Update

Git

Just a super quick late night update to my last post1. Storing git repos in iCloud Drive, can have some issues.

Dupes

A couple people emailed me about my last post, expressing concern over the .git folder. I didn’t think it would be an issue, as the repos are set to stay downloaded in iCloud Drive. And I’ve had my Lightroom Classic catalog2 in there without issue. Well I found an issue with git repos, and it’s not the .git folder.

Switching branches too quickly, can create duplicate files. Say you you go from a new feature branch, to master, and quickly back to that new feature branch, before iCloud Drive can upload the changes. You get duplicated files.

note the 2's on the file names

This is either something I’m just going to have to be careful with. Or, I’m going to have to come up with something else.

  1. In short, I’m moving my main repos off of GitHub, and keeping them in iCloud Drive. ↩︎

  2. Tracking over 6,000 photos, see this post for more info. ↩︎
