Last week, a friend of mine started getting into birding, and recommended that I find a bird walk, after he went on one. So I went searching online to see if there was one near me. What I found wasn’t near me, would require me going on the capital beltway1, but was happening on my day off. So I signed up, packed up my big lens, and hit the road, early the next morning.
Cameras and Birds
Pulling into a park in Virginia, I met up with the others going on the walk. Two of them also brought big camera lenses. One of them had the DSLR version of the SIGMA 150-600 that I brought, cool!
Sadly it was pretty overcast, so while I saw a good number of bird (and learned to spot them better), I didn’t get that many good photos. Here are a couple of a Turkey Vulture.

This is the best one I got on the walk. A Northern Mockingbird.

With the walk over, I was pretty happy. I learned some things, I got to see some birds for the first time, it was fun. But, I wanted to do something else before braving the beltway. Luckily, just ten minutes next door was a place I love.
Dulles Airport
Yep, good ol’ Dulles. After parking I whipped the camera out in time for a nice Southwest shot.

Sadly shortly after that shot, it started raining. Damn.
